This is a song that I just had to write! Two Biminite friends, Aaron Russell and Felix Ellis had just come to Miami from Bimini for the Jets vs Miami Dolphins game on December 18, 2005. They both came by my house on Saturday before the game and then I saw them and their friends at the game on Sunday. I assumed that they were going back to Bimini on Chalks Airline either that Monday or Tuesday after the game. On Monday afternoon when I heard that terrible news that Chalks flight 101 had lost its wing on take off and crashed into Miami's government cut, my heart sank! I later heard from both of them and they were not on the flight, but both had lost many family members and friends. Felix lost his mother Genevieve Ellis and his aunt Shalome Rolle. Aaron was godfather to several of the children on board. Chalks had been flying Biminites to Miami and Ft Lauderdale for over 40 years without a problem. It was their life line to the USA. They got their mail, parts, medicine, food, clothing, newspapers, magazines and gifts by Chalks seaplanes. The daily landings of those Grumman Mallards in Bimini Bay were always a special treat even when you had seen it a hundred times. It will never have the same appeal. This song is for the families and victims of flight 101.
Chords:
G C G; C Dm7sus G

1)
The islands cried the other day,
That flight of fate took you away,
Our island home,
Seems sad and cold,
Without you.

2)
Your grace lives on in Bimini Bay,
Casuarinas whisper your names,
The stars at night,
The birds in flight,
Sing about you.

3)
The islands cried the other day,
God called those Souls.. they're on their way,
New life's begun,
We'll sing have fun,
Again someday.

Repeat 1, 2, and 3.
